Player Code of Conduct

Our Philosophy

We provide a player-centred environment where players are given opportunities to learn, develop and achieve. Our main focus is to support players to develop their rugby skills, knowledge and understanding. We have a great emphasis towards challenging players to flourish beyond the rugby pitch and to be the best they can be.

Our player philosophy has a strong emphasis towards improving decision making skills, resilience and confidence as we feel that these are vital life skills both in rugby and the wider world. We promote fair play and the core values of rugby which are Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship.

Our Core Values

Teamwork is essential to our sport. We welcome all new team members and include all because working as a team enriches our lives. We play selflessly: working for the team, not for ourselves alone, both on and off the field. We take pride in our team, rely on one another and understand that each player has a part to play.

Respect builds the foundations of our sport. We hold in high esteem our sport, its values and traditions and earn the respect of others in the way we behave. We respect our match officials and accept their decisions. We respect opposition players and supporters. We value our coaches and those who run our clubs and treat equipment/facilities with consideration.

Enjoyment is the reason we play and support rugby union. We encourage players to enjoy training and playing. We use our sport to adopt a healthy lifestyle and build life skills. We enjoy being part of a team and part of the rugby family.

Discipline underpins our sport. We ensure that our sport is one of controlled physical endeavour and that we are honest and fair. We obey the laws of the game which ensure an inclusive and exciting global sport.

Sportsmanship is the foundation upon which rugby union is built. We uphold the rugby tradition of camaraderie with teammates and opposition. We observe fair play both on and off the pitch and are generous in victory and dignified in defeat. We play to win but not at all costs and recognise both endeavour and achievement.

We encourage players to adopt these behaviours to develop transferable life skills:

  • Enjoy playing rugby and the family culture that surrounds the game.

  • Work hard and be the best that you can be.

  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship and discipline.

  • Be confident and build relationships with others, even if they are different to you.

  • Be a team player and encourage others positively.

  • Treat others as you would like to be treated.

  • Respect others including players, coaches, parents and referees.

  • Be respectful and humble when you win.

  • Use trial and error to develop and learn from failure.

  • Be resilient when you don't win and identify what you can do better next time.

  • Recognise and celebrate good performances by others (even opponents).

We adopt this 3-tier system to manage players who are unable to abide by our player code of conduct:

Level 1 - Signal or verbal warning from our coaching team.

Level 2 - Phone call/email home to parent/guardian.

Level 3 - Player sent home from an event without a refund (extreme circumstances).
